Calpech, from the PCA, best sustainable and scalable company according to the MIT Enterprise Forum in Madrid

ALICANTE. The startup Calpech, part of the Parque Científico de Alicante (PCA), is dedicated to the mass production of encapsulated iron nanoparticles. It has just been recognized as the best sustainable and scalable company at the twelfth MIT Investors Forum event in Madrid.

This year’s forum focused on innovative startups in the deep-tech world under the motto “AI Applied to Deep Tech: A New Paradigm for Life Sciences and Energy Transition”. It also featured the presence of more than 30 investors including Indra Ventures, Repsol, Adara Ventures, BeAble Capital and Brain. In addition, there were expert investment talks, individual speed‑dating sessions to connect with key investors, and activities to expand networks and explore the latest trends in the deep-tech industry.

From the entrepreneurial project in the province of Alicante, they stated that “it has been a great honor to be part of this event and to receive this recognition. We thank the entire organization and all the attendees for giving us the opportunity to present our vision and innovation to investors and industry leaders”.

Company background
Calpech is a technology-based company born from the University of Alicante, specializing in the production of iron nanoparticles for environmental solutions such as improving biogas production, removing hydrogen sulfide in biodigesters, or removing heavy metals from contaminated waters and soils. In early 2023 it announced, together with its partner Troil Vegas Altas, the launch of a new and innovative additive designed to increase methane production, remove hydrogen sulfide and stabilize the biogas reactor.

That spring, Calpech received a Neotec grant to develop carbon‑encapsulated iron nanoparticles from alpechín for the optimization of biogas production. It will be between 2023 and 2024; the total project budget is €420,147 and the grant covers €325,000.
