2025 Avelino Corma Award to Calpech for “Innovative Chemical Company”

Calpech has been awarded the 2025 Avelino Corma Prize in the category of “Innovative Chemical Company,” an honor that highlights the company’s commitment to technological innovation, sustainability, and the transfer of knowledge to the industrial sector.

The awards ceremony took place in Toledo during the second edition of the Avelino Corma National Chemical Engineering Awards, organized by the Association of Chemical Engineering Professionals of Castilla-La Mancha (COPIQ-CLM), the Official Association of Chemical Engineers of the Valencian Community (COIQCV), and the Spanish Federation of Chemical Engineering Professionals (FEPIQ).

These awards recognize the excellence of professionals, researchers, and companies that contribute to the advancement of chemical engineering in Spain. In the “Innovative Chemical Company” category, the jury highlighted Calpech’s track record as a spin-off from the University of Alicante and its ability to translate scientific research into the development of high-value-added industrial solutions.

From Alpechín to Innovation: The Technology Behind the Award

Since its founding, the company has developed its own technology based on the production of carbon-encapsulated iron nanoparticles from olive pomace, a byproduct generated during olive oil production.
This innovation has enabled Calpech to offer sustainable solutions for sectors such as biogas and biomethane, water treatment, and waste recovery, contributing to the advancement of the circular economy and the decarbonization of industry.

This recognition represents significant support for the work the company has been doing in the field of innovation and reinforces its commitment to developing technologies capable of addressing today’s environmental and energy challenges.

The Avelino Corma Award joins other accolades Calpech has received in recent years and solidifies the company’s position as one of the most innovative companies in the chemical and sustainable technologies sectors. The award also strengthens the company’s ties to the innovation ecosystem at the University of Alicante and the Alicante Science Park, where the business project was launched.
